Well, I'm still working on my "top secret" project - and it is coming along amazingly! (A huge pain in the butt - hahaha, but I'm so close to actually getting it done with it - So I am very excited about that!) Also I'm just loving that yesterday I was able to print out some of my work - 16x 20 inch, and then also some 16x24 inch -- so some nice sized, big work! I have one of my pieces framed on my wall right now and I just love it - I have been so busy I haven't had time to work on new artwork or shoot anything.... so seeing it in a larger printed format is just so cool - I forget how nice it is to see my work on a wall and not just on the computer screen!

Well, things have been so busy lately.... I haven't had much time for ANYTHING!!! I have mostly been working on a HUGE special project - like for the past 6 weeks!! I'm hoping to get it finished in the next week or so... but it is like every time I think that I am about done - then I realize that there was a bunch of unforeseen "needs" that still need to be finished! But it is going well! =) Getting very close! THEN... today, I just got word that the shoot of Monica "Danger" Leon that I was a part of a couple weeks back -- well, the images were submitted to a magazine. And the magazine decided to use my image as the cover! So that was pretty exciting - I saw a preview of it.... I'll have to post it when it is released.

My dad would have been 58 today.

Today would have been my dads 58th birthday... kinda fitting that I got to watch the last episode of Rescue Me today... We use to always watch it together...

In thinking about my dad and life... I realized something about how people influence you... change you, help you to be someone.... I guess, that I kinda forget how people like my dad influenced me... I mean your just living day to day and they are always there -- so you don't really realize the great influence that they have on you or the SUBTLE influences. -- Typically I notice the influence people have on me when it is negative..... when it hurts or hinders my life... But after my dad passed away - I saw that I don't have the patience that I use to have, I don't have the ability to care for others the way I did.... I'm just not the same as I was... I guess because his influence or friendship is not there anymore.... it just makes me somehow LESS then how I use to be...

How we never KNOW really how someone makes our lives a better place or make US BETTER people... until they are not in our lives anymore.... not helping us BE who we "are." So I guess in celebrating my dads life... I see what he imparted/ planted and nurtured in mine..... And maybe in the same way... I am a tree that has been greatly pruned back.... and currently is less then what I was... but in time will bear the fruit that he labored to help bring out of me.

Thanks dad, I love and miss you.

"I noticed you were gone"

So the other day I noticed that one of my pieces was suddenly missing.... just gone and vanished...

I wanted to document it by reworking this piece specifically to reflect that shock of the disappearance... I wanted to try and express how the subject in the piece is kinda ghostly... the original work was sharp and focussed and in this reworked image the subject is fading herself away/ is kinda hidden or distance from the viewer... there is a divide that separates. She is like a dream or a dew in the morning... vanishing... I had altered the original image in order to show this change... But I needed something to make the image remain easily identifiable to what it was formerly... and so I chose to leave the eyes... and I soon realized fittingly so! -- Since the image is so abstracted, but the eyes so sharp and powerful... They draw your attention.... the windows of the soul, everything that was in the original "image" can be found in just those eyes. And I realized then that not only was leaving the eyes allowing the viewers to identify the subject/ the original image.... but it then hit me that the eyes were seemingly watching the viewer too... even haunting the viewer at the same time.....

One of the exhibitions I was in last month was featured on KCRW. Art Talk: Hosted by Edward Goldman - Who wasn't to thrilled about the work exhibited in the show... Which personally I pretty much agree with him for a large portion of the work that I saw there.... and Yet... What other art exhibition can say that they featured 16 Hundred Artists. Or that the amount of artist trying to get off the freeway to drop off work, created so much traffic that a SigAlert for the Santa Monica freeway was issued!

Just heard about Magu passing away this past weekend. Very Sad! He was a creative and fun spirited artist and man. -- For those of you that remember he had agreed to allow me to be his studio assistant and curate an art exhibition of his work a few years ago. And just recently I have seen his work a BUNCH while I have been riding the metro back and forth. - You can see it filling the platform and walls of the Hollywood and Vine - Red Line Station. Full of life and energy!

He currently has a show coming up at Da in Pomona, CA. -- I'll post more info as it comes.

Chain Letter is a group exhibition based on admiration. Initially conceived by Christian Cummings and Doug Harvey in 2006, inclusion in the exhibition is based on invitation by someone who admires your work. Homeland Security VS Home Invasion

So last night I was at a friends house, about 10PM and there was some hard knocking on his front door. My friend went to answer it and I just assumed that it must be one of his friends dropping by and maybe needing to use the bathroom - because I could hear the man saying Open the door! Hurry!

I was eating so I didn't leave the kitchen-- I could hear part of what was being said by the guy at the door... He said something about being from Homeland Security and needed to be let into the house to get a Government Issued Iphone that "somehow" was just in my friends house... and so I got suspicious and pulled a knife out -- thinking that my friend was about to get forced into the house and robbed. So I figured that the robber would be slightly surprised when he came into the kitchen! -- But after a minute I realized that although the man was determined to get in - he must not have a gun because he had not forced himself in... I stepped out into the door way but left my hand behind my back as if I might have something in it like a gun! haha

The man had shown my friend a badge and ID and continued to demand to be let inside - But my friend is kinda a big guy and just kept telling the man NOPE -NOT going to happen... The man threatened that he would come back and tear the house apart with a bunch of H.Sec. guys a few days from now if we didn't let him in... My friend said GO AHEAD! -- and so at that point the guy kinda decided to leave... -- My friend came back into the house and it sunk in even more that this guy was just a scam artist trying to rob something -- We said something about calling the cops and I think that the guy heard us and saw us watching him and decided not to continue to the next house... AS my friend decided to go ask him for his badge again... The two men quickly jumped into their truck and drove off... My friend got the lic. # and reported it... but it was just so shocking ..... later I realized that although there seemed to be NO crime committed... He claimed to be a Fed. Agent = a Felony!! -- That was my crazy night! haha

I just started working for the MTA in LA - and it is just the best thing ever! I get to travel to a bunch of different metro stations riding the buses, trains, and subways-- and seeing a bunch of possible locations I can go back and shoot later -- all FREE- WHILE getting PAID! haha

I also get to ride any of them free any other time outside of work - So I have been having a great time seeing everything from LAX into LA and back out up to N. Hollywood and over to Woodland Hills -- It's been great! Next week part of my "job" will be taking photos of different MTA Stations/ locations and documenting what I feel is significant - good or bad. So they can see a perspective of an outsider, and how people experience their locations. Too cool huh! I feel very blessed!

Change of Luck

So yesterday I was walking down the beach and looked down and saw a coin - it was a quarter on the sand - Heads up... and I had flipped it a few times -- every time I flipped it the heads landed up... I put it in my pocket and went along the beach. Today I got out of my car, talking on my cell, and walked around wasting time before going into the store. I was by the planters way off in the parking lot - and there was 7 dollar bills scattered on the ground! -- So I have been wondering if I will find a nice large sum of money tomorrow too! HAHAHA =) Well, I'm sorry for the person that lost it but I'm grateful for being the one to find it!

Broom Handle and the Garbage Disposal

So today my mom had a pan that has this little screw on it... it went down in the garbage disposal and she didn't realize it till she turned it on... the thing got stuck! So she asked me to try to get it out and try to take it apart to get to the screw that was jamming the machine.

I tried but the little screw was caught between the wall and the base of the blade. I pried on it with a couple screw drivers - but nothing!! No movement at ALL! -- My mom talked to my grandpa and he said that the only thing he has ever know to work has always been using a big wooden broom handle. -- I thought it was funny and just crazy! So I kept trying everything I could do -- all to no avail. FINALLY I thought OK.... so I will try the broom handle... and to my utter amazement I could get the base to turn! HAHAHA... I was then able to turn the base to a point that the screw had a larger hole and kinda fell justtttt a little deeper - when I put my hand in it. So I grabbed some tweezers and was able to get it out! I was totally surprised!!! -- Turned out the broom handle DOES seem to always solve the garbage disposal problems! haha

Over night it just started to spring up!!! Yesterday there was not even a HINT of grass and then this morning I went out to water it and some of the lil guys are over an inch out of the ground! Amazing! =)

I have just not really been in the mood to do any artwork or even shoot... I have WANTED to shoot.... but I just don't have the heart to go thru with it... Like I think that with everything that I have gone thru... I have just kinda lost my passion.... I have had a bunch of ideas I have wanted to try and shoot... and I LOVE the ideas! But then... ??? I just can't seem to bring myself to go thru with doing them.... I don't really have any desire to do any artwork anymore... I think that with the death of my dad... ??? I don't know... just something in me is lost... This year has just been filled with so much loss ... and then each month seems to just continue to take more from me... ... I don't really know what to think... ... and as far as artwork/ photography.... I think that I need a muse....

Shark Attack?

Back in Nov. and Dec. I had been looking for this one location that I have seen in photos but can't seem to find along the coast. -- So last month I just needed to kinda get away and get out. I decided to go site hunting and while I was at the beach I came along these remains... It was so weird! I never see this kinda stuff on the shores. So I just had to take pics of it! =)

Well, in putting our house up for sale one problem about our house is that the backyard has no grass... we had it at one time but then because of our big dogs it just kept dying and then was easier to maintain just as a big patch of dirt. While talking about it to a friend he asked why I didn't plant seeds and wait for grass to grow?? And... I just had never considered it... Since we always just see people ROLL in the grass or place in big square "already grown" grass chunks. So last week I bought some seed for ONLY 6 bucks! Spent a few days turning over the dirt and getting it kinda ready... and then 5 days ago I planted the seeds! So it says 7 to 14 days we'd have grass.... I can't wait! I keep looking for ANY HINT of it... but nothing yet! =)

I haven't had much time to work on artwork - been busy prepping the ground to plant grass in the back yard and dealing with a bunch of other things in life... I actually have had very little desire recently to do any more artwork or photography. But here and there I have taken a few hours to do some cyanotypes. Here is one that I recently did.
