Cyanotype
I have been working on creating some new cyanotype prints - BUT I have ran into a problem because I didn't realize that the chemicals that I bought to create them were not actually "liquid" solutions - but rather was a kit of powder chemicals - A bunch of chemistry for me to make the liquid solution and then make the cyanotypes -- SO it has kinda been taking a bit longer then I had originally planned since now I have had to find and buy all the supplies JUST to be able to be able to create them. But hopefully I will be able to hurry / find time to start printing them!

Scouting Locations
Been waking up early and going out looking at different locations - scouting for caves and new places to shoot.
The other day I was driving to one of the places I wanted to check out. I drove past these houses and kinda between them was this open gate... it looked like maybe a community entrance down to a beach - there wasn't really any signs on the gate and it was open - so I entered in and then walked a lil ways and found myself on the beach! It was a small hidden private cove, that you could squeeze around to a second totally private cove, along with some giant rocks that you could get too that were a few feet out into the water.... prefect for shooting!
I had to hurry and check out the place before getting to work at the gallery -So I checked it all out and shot a bunch of shots and then ran back up to the gate - BUT... someone locked and closed it!!! And there was NO way to open it, call for help or get back to where I came from/ where my car was!! -- After about 15 minutes a car pulled up and I called out to the girl that was driving it... She thought that she was hearing voices- because she couldn't see me only hear me calling to her - hahaha... She was able to get a key and open the gate - otherwise I would have been trapped there all day! -- Just another adventure in scouting for the best locations!

Family/ Process/ New Project/Coffee Books
October has become jam packed!! -- With all my family coming down for a few bday parties --It's given us a chance to get to see each other - meet the newest nephews/ niece. It's been busy and LOUD here! haha But great! I also have been working on finishing up the coffee books of both my artwork and photography. And working on the beginning of a new business idea I have had + plus testing out the process that I have had to take my work from where it has been to this new and exciting place!! The first part of the process has totally worked... so I need to see about finishing up the test pieces and see what happens. I also have been trying to get ready to shoot some models that have been waiting - but I just don't have the time... Hopefully I'll find more time soon!

Changing My Blog Name
Recently I re-created my website, logo, and business cards -- and have made the change to create my website: HowardHillStudio.com. So I have decided to rename my blog to create a consistency between all my work online. I had been working under the title of Le Storia Arts - which was based on a few illustration books that I had been working on.... but as of today everything under Le Storia, Le Storia Arts, LSA -ect will all be under HowardHillStudio.com or under my own name.

Surprise at the door...
I just walked out my front door and looked down to see something that seemed unidentifiable.
I kinda froze in my tracks - I couldn't place what it was... Suddenly I saw it move and saw the head turn to look at me - and it hit me... I WAS LOOKING AT THE BUTT of a SKUNK with it's TAIL UP! HAHAHAHA... I slammed the door and then started to LOL - I just had NO idea what I was looking at... kinda looked like a feather duster...
When it turned to look at me it was almost to say... I dare you to come out! hahaha -- But it didn't spray me or the door.... just left. I was SO LUCKY! hahaha

I have been juggling a bunch of stuff - so I haven't had much time to post some of the art I have been working on over summer. Hopefully I will be able to squeeze in a lil bit more time to shoot and work on artwork! Here are two of the last pieces I did from the shoot with Anna B.

Changing My Website Address
A few years... many years back =) I started my first website to share short illustrated stories/ encourage humanitarian work. That site came to an end when my hosting company cashed my check for my address renewal, but never paid godaddy. Godaddy then sold the web address to someone else. In turn I started a new address that was associated to the original site, but then bought another site so that I could have it focus on the humanitarian projects I wanted to begin working on.
The loss of my original site was just too depressing for me and I quit the stories.... and just started to show a few different art series I had been working on and curatorial projects from my work in different galleries.
But as of the past week I have began to change my web address, site, and logos in order to better express and identify my work to my audience. I am excited to see the new changes as they unfold and transform.

Busy Summer...
The summer is coming to an end - it has just flown by so quick! I have been so busy I can't believe that it is over... wow!
So much I have wanted to do but just no time - some shoots, some art, underwater photography... But it has been a good and very productive summer! -- I spent most of it working with another artist, Fatemeh Burnes -- And recently I have started working for both the Pedersen Projects and Mt. San Antonio Art Gallery. Working on prepping the galleries for the upcoming shows - moving walls, painting, ect. They look amazing and can't wait to start to hang the artwork! I also have been working on recreating my logo. I'm in the process of a total revamp of my public image. So it is pretty exciting but busy!
Today was one of the first real days that I had time to work on artwork. I have been finding it difficult to bring together all my concepts and ideas of the processes I want to mix into a piece. but on the up side.... I realized an idea for creating textures - A problem that I haven't been able to figure out how to paint them the way that I want.... So today I got a chance to do some test painting techniques. I'm already excited about the way it has turned out so far... I am going to have to try it some more to see about if it will really work out the way that I am hoping...
I think that I have one more super busy week of summer ahead of me and then I think that my time to do more artwork and shoots will open up... ... hopefully! hahaha

New Abstract Photography
I always love shooting things that reminds me of abstract paintings - I was working for a friend of mine and had to take out the camera for a few minutes!! Here are two of my favorites from that lil camera play. I like that they have a kinda painterly feel to them...

Shooting Deer
I had a shoot yesterday - Went out in nature and was walking with the model thru the hills and suddenly heard a bunch of noise... I looked up and there was deer racing across the hilside. One stopped and just started to watch us. I quietly grabbed my camera and started getting a few shots. I had seen different wild life there - even a huge owl, but this was my first time to see deer - it was very cool!

Underwater Test Shots
I decided to finally do the test shots -- VERY EXCITING! -- buttttt the only thing is when I got out of the pool (the second test) I noticed that there was a few drops of water that had leaked... =/
When I read about the return policy it said that it was covered UNTIL you put it in water!!! - What the heck?! hahaha Anyway I think that it will be ok - at least for a while... I want to do some modeled shots... But at this rate... I just have no time! But keep an eye out for them... Hopefully before the end of summer!

My Interest in old film/ cameras
Today I was thinking about my early photographic experiences...
I remember being around maybe at the oldest 6 yrs old and my parents helped me load a polaroid and then I got to shoot ONE shot... but then after begging I got to shoot a second... and then waiting and watching as the image came to life... it was so exciting!!! I wanted to shoot some more but then they said no - and I think that my grandma let me then shoot a few shots of her camera that took 110 film! It wasn't as cool... but that was better then not shooting at all! She tried to tell me how to look thru it and i just loved clicking the big square button. I think that later they took out the film and let me "shoot" alllll I wanted! A few years later it was the same kinda camera that became my first camera I'd own.
When I was young my mom use to go and get film developed... She would drive up to a lil booth that was in the middle of the parking lot - I use to think that they had an underground building that had secret stairs that lead below the small booth! hahaha -- It might have been just from something that the lady that took the film said... maybe something like "I'll take it down there today" - or something like that that made me think BELOW the booth. I can remember the multiple boxes of film that sat in the windows for people to buy- and the large colorful Polaroid boxes... --There was just an excitement that I got from seeing the pics. And maybe just how weird it seemed - like magic... you take this thing - this role in and a few days later WHAM you have a bunch of pictures.
So now that I am older... I think that part of me just has that connection to playing with them as a kid. In the past the film was too expensive for me... limited me from getting to shoot that often.... and now as an adult the film is either discontinued or kinda expensive - so I think that it still holds that limitation/ a feeling of being LUCKY to shoot with it... Besides that it is more of an Artist tool now which appeals to that creative experimental childlike side of me.
