A lil gift for a LITTLE model -hehehe

I had been printing a bunch of my work last month and I surprised one of my models that printed out a few large prints for for her. Just to say thanks for being a great model and since I appreciated that she has shot repeatedly with me!! These two images can be found on my blog if you look back to like jan or feb of this year.

I'm Printing

I just think that it is cool to see my prints coming out ... this print is almost 3 feet by 4 feet in size. It is a shot from one of my recent shoots. I had recently posted that image here on my blog.

Etching from copper plate

Over the last week or so I have been working on the copper etching below -Which was based off of one of my photo shoots.
The second image below was then created from the copper plate from above - but then I aquatinted it to give it a bit more definition -- It was the first aquatinting that I have tried. I liked the process but would like to try it a few more times to really get use to it a lil more. I also did a lil bit of dry point on it before printing.

NAMI poster

I had a few dreams about different ideas about artwork/ how to create it - ect.  ... But then I had this dream about people loosing their memories and had an idea of how I might express that in printmaking... but then the idea was better as a dream then what I thought that I would be able to do with printmaking. I was still thinking about it and a good friend told me about NAMI - and then after reading their website - I decided to do a quick screen print that just kinda gets the point across - Many people are affected with mental illness - and we just don't even know that they are or that our friends and families struggle with them.

It was also  cool to do because I don't really like to get into politics and social issues - because most of it you can just go in circles over. But this kinda reminded me that there are some social issues that I actually do feel are important to think about. -- I had sketched out a few different ideas - So I might get to some of those at a later time.

Fuji (polaroid) transfer

So I decided to give a transfer a try!!  The first one AGAIN - turned out all black! - I was kinda in the dark when I tried the transfer - but it hit me that I probably needed to try it with the room darker! -- The second one is the image below - It came out but I wanted to see what it was like on vellum... the vellum buckled... BUT now I know / I can do it on arches paper or another and it will totally work! So exciting!

(Ok back to work... I'm working on a copper etching - but just HAD to take a break to try this out!)

Lith Printing

Today I got a chance to try something new - well, NEW to me! hahaha  Lith Printing has been a round for a long time. I found this process totally interesting...

The photo (below) comes from a blk/wht negative, and I have created blk/wht photos from it in the past. But this time, using the lith developers we are able to get different tones from the blk/wht image. All 3 photos had the same amount of exposure time but are on three different types of paper- each of which gives a different tonal look. Likewise each print (using the same paper) will have a slight different and original look from the next. This is because of how the chemical reacts to the paper and the way that the crystals in the paper are effected will be slightly different then some in the next sheet or paper.

I really loved the Slavic paper (2cd photo above) - It had a beautiful grainy feel to it, and I think I would have liked it more on a different image. But for this photo I liked this paper below because of the way that it gave an old look and feel. (I'll post the brand of paper soon.)

Intaglio & Chine Colle'

Last week I had created this intaglio print from a plastic plate. It is 11.75"x 15.75" -- I then decided that I wanted to make it into a chine colle' intaglio print.- Here are two examples.

Work in Progress: Woodblock

A test print from the woodblock that I was carving out of a lil over a week ago.  I've been juggling a few different types of work all at the same time. It allows me time to think abotu what I should do or cut... so I wanted to do a lil state proof to check out how it was coming along...   -- The first one is fully inked and the second is a ghost print from the left over ink.  So I need to think about how to cut the rest to give it a lil more fine detail...

New Screen Prints

I have been working on a few new screen prints from some models I worked with a while back - taking some of my old photography and reworking it into new forms of art. I am hoping to find a way to incorporate this into some of my future work.

Self Portrait - Screen Print / Spray Paint

Here is the self portrait that I was working on - The top image has the spray painted stencil attempt that I did for fun - I decided to blend it into the background by mixing another stencil pattern and mixing it all up with spray paint -- then when I finished I took my self portrait that I made a screen print of  - and printed that on top.  -- I did a few other ones too. I like the way it came out...

Linoleum Print: Grandpa

Finished the linoleum print - it was the first one I have ever done... very cool! I made a few for my family, and will be able to give them it on Easter.... I have been trying to start making some stuff that I can give to family members... Since at different times they ask for a piece... but then I just have ONE... so this type of artwork seems like it would be great to give each a piece.

Cyanotype print

Been working with some traditional / alternative printing -- Here are 2 of my first cyanotype prints. I have a few more planned. I was surprised at how easy they were to make and that you could make them at home without needing much.  -- I'm also preparing for some polaroid lifts/ transfers that I want to do pretty soon!
