Work in Progress: Stencil / Woodblock

Been working on a few spray paint stencil pieces -- This is some of the work in progress... I want to mix on layers of paint and maybe do something else to it like collage? I will just have to see where it leads as it progresses. I also started a woodblock print, but then was not sure how I want to make the thin lines/ If I will make it a reduction print? - So I have put it off to give it some more thought.

Thinking about Artwork

I have been sitting here planning out a few of the new prints that I want to see about working on -- I have a list of all materials that I have ready to work on, plus the sizes -- So it is just a matter of figuring out what I want to do and on what type - wood, plastic, zinc, rubber or what?

But that seems to be the hard part - because I want to make something amazing. =) Something layered, mixed media, that has a certain look and feel, but is interesting to me to create... but I can't seem to think about how to combine the different processes -and make it work the way I would like... On one side I was thinking that it is really a GOOD thing that I never really feel satisfied... It kinda makes me know that I have a bunch more to create - more to figure out and discover.... to learn to express....

On the OTHER side it is really frustrating... like trying to talk but then loosing your voice... then trying to force out the words... Since what is harder then that is the feeling of having a short time to create all I want to make .... And I am not sure which would be better to have this passion that makes me feel the pressure of the drive due to not feeling like a piece will be satisfying enough... or to have the satisfaction in my work that would make me feel completed when I finish a piece??? .... but might leave me without any motivation or need to keep doing more...

2cd Pinhole Camera Shoot

I made a new pinhole - and was trying to make sharper images - I don't think that it worked any better but I do like the shots that I got from the shoot! They have a soft painted feel to them - I love how they came out!

You know I was thinking about how most people would remember pinhole cameras from the doing them with old oatmeal boxes.... and it hit me... the oatmeal comes in a canister not a "box" - And I just thought it was funny that we call them oatmeal boxes. =)

Etching from plastic plate

I etched and printed this yesterday - it is based off one of my designs from a previous photo that I created in the wet lab - using alternative processing. This etching reminds me of a dream that your waking out of in that peaceful bliss of rest - the returning.

Made a Digital Pin Hole Camera

I was looking to make a pin hole camera and decided that the most useful one for me would be a digital pin hole - Since I could continually use it and not have to deal with finding / getting a chance to get into a wet lab....

For those that don't know... a pin hole camera doesn't use a LENS! =)  Which makes shooting feel SOOO ODD! - Even more so since you are kinda just GUESSING what will be in the shots - since you can't see thru the view finder. The pin hole is very tiny -- the smaller the hole the sharper the image will be - pin hole shots have a slight blur to them- but are an Artistic Alternative to regular shooting. Here are some of the shots I took - first pin hole shots I have ever tried. Tomorrow I plan on trying to make the hole smaller - see how they come out and what difference if any they make.

Printing Human Cells

This might be the new art of the future!

- Just amazing what we can come up with... Seems very SCI-FI and an amazing medical tool!! .... But totally makes me wonder how we might use other materials in the same way to create other art forms...

Self Portrait - Screen Print / Spray Paint

Here is the self portrait that I was working on - The top image has the spray painted stencil attempt that I did for fun - I decided to blend it into the background by mixing another stencil pattern and mixing it all up with spray paint -- then when I finished I took my self portrait that I made a screen print of  - and printed that on top.  -- I did a few other ones too. I like the way it came out...

Polaroid Transfer

First Polaroid transfer -- well it didn't come out as clean as I was hoping... but I like the feel of the red.... I think that I needed a different type of paper..... and maybe need a lil more time working on the transfer..... soooo NEXT TIME I think that they will be better! But they are very cool to make! I can't wait to do a few more!

Busy Busy Busy...

I have just been so busy lately - working on the weekends dry-walling, working on multiple art projects, and then house sitting.... So as of this last weekend, I am really excited to have finally finished working on the dry-walling. And today is my last day of house sitting - I'll be able to focus more on the artwork I have been working on. I thought I'd give a lil update:

Currently I just finished printing my linoleum print of my grandpa. I had to redo my cyanotype print - because I attempted to try something but the chemicals bleached the image. The new image is being submitted to an art exhibition in Hollywood - freestyle mag. (I'll let you know more as I find out the out come.)

I have been working on putting together a book of my photos and artwork. I originally planned on making one book at a time but- NOW, I have been putting 4 books together all at the same time! It has been a lil overwhelming trying to pick which images. I have that process about complete, and have began organizing the page layouts. I hope to get them finished in the next week or so...

As far as other artwork - I have been prepping a cap to make a digital pin-hole camera - and will soon be shooting with it. The images are lensless and have a cool soft/ fuzzy look to them. I also have been prepping to do polaroid transfers, using old family images. I also am working on a few designs for both etching and relief prints. And this week will be printing out a screen print of a self portrait -- it will be printed over other artwork that I will do... I am thinking about doing some designs with spray paint as the backgrounds.

I also have some other projects that I am trying to finish up -- but WOW when I get back home my room is just filled with artwork that I have been working on and finished prints are laid out everywhere! hahaha... So I am happy that I'll soon have a bit more free time to see about getting some of this stuff done!  PS. Hope you all had a great Easter and enjoyed that lil earthquake we had....

Linoleum Print: Grandpa

Finished the linoleum print - it was the first one I have ever done... very cool! I made a few for my family, and will be able to give them it on Easter.... I have been trying to start making some stuff that I can give to family members... Since at different times they ask for a piece... but then I just have ONE... so this type of artwork seems like it would be great to give each a piece.
