Switching over to Wordpress

While I have loved having this blog and I have found Blogger to be very easy to work with... I have found that Wordpress promotes blogs a bit better then Blogger -- so I have started to transition my postings to Wordpress. Please click here to check out and follow the new blog!

Old Street Sign Series

I've been so busy lately -- That I haven't had time for much of anything... just juggling everything.... And I have decided that I want to do a couple new coffee books of a few mini-series of photography I have been creating - So that has kinda added to my work load. One will be of international photos (but I want to keep it kinda quiet till I get more work done on it.) Another will be a collaboration of different peoples self portraits. BUT.... I've also been noticing all these old street signs... and so NOT that I need one moreeeee thing to consider tossing into the mix and shooting... but... I'm thinking about starting a small series of these old signs.... =)

My Out of Focus Photography

As I was saying yesterday.... I've really enjoyed playing around and shooting stuff that is kinda a little of the box... I have talked to soooo MANY photographers that want to get the PERFECT shot. So focused on the technical aspect of shooting that they are not attempting the creative sides.... And I feel like the camera industry is focused on making the best quality of images + the photoshop aspect of it -- pushing photographers to "FIX" or edit to death images ... I'm not at ALL saying that PS is bad or that I do not use it... I DO! =) I'm just saying that the push for PERFECT images... kinda steals the creativity or realness out of it - even if it is a faked image... So I think that is why I have really enjoyed the abstracted/ out of focus photography I have been shooting... It leaves a lot to your imagination... like a dream or a memory that you can't quite focus on...  ...  ... It is funny because the first shot I did like this was back in 2006 or 2007... And I loved this out of focus shot I took... but with so many ideas I wanted to play with.... It kinda just never took off... It became one of those things that I was like OK when I have more time... LOL... And since then I have slowly been adding them into my regular shooting habits. =) it is something that I find really exciting to expand on.

Alternative Cameras

As an artist I really enjoy creating art from different points of view or trying things out to see what might be created that is new or different for me -- I love to just EXPLORE my creative side... So in the past I have shot models with a regular digital camera, 35MM film cameras, polaroid/ toy cameras, pin hole cameras.... and the list goes on... but since I have been shooting a few polaroid shots while shooting for the 3 part series.... I was thinking about it and what polaroid cameras are today to us - will be the iphone images for our children.... and so I decided that while shooting my models I would try to use a iphone for part of the shoot - and slowly build up a small body of iphone shots - also skype and a few other creative ideas I have... use some alternative cameras to take new images - something more then just my regular digital images... Which I love but at the same time I kinda miss the romance that is found in an image that is not so SHARP and CLEAN..... that romantic quality and deep character of poorly shot images... the flawed shots that give an image a little realness and personality.

My grandpa and the Big White Truck

Growing up my dad and grandpa worked together as partners in a Locksmith and Safe business. I always would go to work with one of them and go out on jobs. When I was a kid my cousin and I would stand in the back of the truck about where this shot was taken - and we would "surf" the streets and freeways -- or throw down a blanket and sleep to the rattle and rum of the truck and all the tools in it. I shot this recently while helping my 84 year old grandpa move that safe you see chained down. He is crazy busy all the time - The other day I stopped by his house and he was cutting down a tree in his backyard! hahaha... It's been like 100 degrees everyday too! OH and if you look to the space opposite my grandpa - that is were I use to lay and hang my hand out the door -- I liked to leave my eyes slightly open so I could see drivers reactions -- It looked like my grandpa had a dead body laying there or that if at any moment I might fall out the door-- I LOVED IT! hahaha Old ladies driving would try to wave at him to warn him! hahaha...  ...  ... I sure had fun as a kid! hahaha

Skype Coffee Book: Virtually.... Reality, Reflecting Reality

I've decided that I want to start another coffee book!!  I want to take it in a whole new kinda direction -- with all my other coffee books I have had models either pose for photographs out in nature for the series I have been working on or the book was based off my artwork I created. I decided that I wanted to do something totally different for this coffee book -- I want to create a book that might be printed at some point in the future but for the time being create it for the web -- and have an online coffee book!

The concept is to have women from the net --  from all over the world - Different lives, cultures, life styles all random people -- who I have never met before in real life model for me. Some will be real models from other countries and some will be your average person that I find online to photograph. I want to use modern technology "skype" to meet and shoot them -- Using the computer camera, a modern form of communication in an unconventional way to create fine art photography. I like a lil sexy, romantic, emotional kinda look and feel... something kinda old looking, timeless and artsy. Images that is moody, tells a story and leaves a little to the imagination....

We live in an Age of Virtually..... Reality.... -- The world is getting smaller.... More and more people are meeting and making friends with people online... building quick casual connections... Some of them are "catfish" and some of them are real "live" people... Yet, even "real live people" are able to "express" or "repress" aspects of ourselves because it is rather the, "virtually us" --It is the aspects, character, or personal that we "reveal" online to others... BUT it is not ALWAYS the truest versions of who we are... We are allowed INTO a persons world/ home, bedrooms, etc. -- In a way that is both intimate and detached at the same time. I believe that this series will express the lifestyles and culture of our time in both imagery and in theory. My goal is to shoot people in their real life environments, from all over the world, capturing who I SEE them as, who they are but they keep private, or who they want to portray themselves as... This is a world wide adventure, connecting people ideas and concepts that we live out in everyday life all the time.

In some situations I will be making connections across simply a city, but in others it is across the country or on the other side of the world. I find the idea of "taking" a picture of a model who is 1/2 a world away from me - totally fascinating! It is truly an "international shot photograph."
